The book is generally well-written but the pacing is quite poor and there is no plot advancement. The first 70% of the book is filled with reports on base-building and crafting, and it is repetitive and excruciatingly detailed. I am not a big fan of base-building but I tend to enjoy the crafting elements in books. I did not enjoy the crafting in this book at all as there was no action or sense of excitement. In terms of plot (i.e. the issue with Rinbast), the book made zero progress.** Minor spoilers below **Frankly, this book seemed to have been written with no plan and no plot outline. The author just seems to have sat down and put pen to his stream of consciousness. He likes base building, so let's spend more than two-thirds of the book on it. The MC needs an excuse for his inactivity, so let's give him some debuffing fever so he doesn't have to move much. The split party has to come back, let's just write it in a random place. Oh, we should include some fun but disparate ideas on guns and ichor and Korean fangirldom, so let's include random and assorted world-travelling for the missing party.** End of spoilers**I generally like closure on all series that I start. But I regret purchasing this book and will read reviews very carefully before I decide if I should get the next book. I hope to see a coherent story across the entire book (instead of a mishmash of scenes) and some main plot advancement. The entire first quarter of the book is hal whining about checking his notifications. The entire second quarter is him whining about crafting. The plot device of the "Wyrd Sickness" prevents any good crafting from happening because the author made it too strong for his inane plot to handle. All in all a complete waste of time.
